MANAGING 2008 AND BEYOND

I write this article as the world faces the worst economic crisis it has faced in this decade. Even with the bailout of America of 800 million dollars, the crises gets worse and the meltdown continues and people end up jobless and the world is also getting worse. Germany has just gone on recession and that puts Europe in dire straits and it will affect the whole Europe. Just the other day, Japan, the second largest economy has announced that it is now also in recession which will affect the whole Asia and the world.   As you know in this times of IT technology and the fast pace of growth, we have to watch the flows of people and trends in what is making money and what isn’t.  Even the great China is now feeling the effects of this new order. After the Olympics, China now has a huge labor problem, which, if not controlled and solved will burden the budget surplus that they are so proud about. The whole world is under attack from greed and selfish people. Even this great G20 meeting held recently has shown that there are problems besetting the global economy. There seems to be some complacency in government in dealing with the fallout of the global financial crisis. This is compounded by the 20 largest economies or the G20s’ failure to face the real issues in the crisis.   Nobody (in the G20) is calling for sacrifices. Nobody acknowledged resource depletion  which is half the problem.    There is an underlying belief that by throwing money at the problem, it would be solved. And not addressing the problem of the poor.  It is a very a serious issue which must be tackled. Otherwise, the economies will collapse. The most disturbing is the domestic complacency in the Philippine government in not acting quickly to shore up the country’s defenses against the global economic meltdown.  The Philippines should move now and solve this by keeping our skilled workers and have fresh jobs and government help and cooperate to address these issues and work together with private corporations.  Then there is the IT technology, it is vital that we keep up to new computer trends as it changes everyday, the field of computer knowledge and its functions and what it does is endless in terms of what it can bring in income and fresh capital in the form of money and knowledge.    Now, our educational system is obsolete and the direction of our people is clouded by a belief that it is better to go abroad rather than to stay here in the Philippines to make a successful life here which is not the norm in terms of your future. With these, it is imperative that we make an effort to stop thinking bailout and start refreshing your company and rethink the way you do business in the 21st century. Let us all start now and progress in the next decade with bounty and intellectual collective efforts.
